Who can become a notary?
Generally speaking, each state has its own specific qualifications, but typically a Notary applicant should be at least 18 years of age, be a legal resident of the state and not have a criminal record. Some states allow residents of neighboring states to become Notaries in their state as well. Some states also may require that Notary applicants be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
